Reflections on Architectural Design

From this “spaces and layouts” ADMT project with regards to Architectural Design, there are a few key learning points. Of which, one of the most important point is that I've learn about the design considerations when thinking about the design of the architectural itself, with the restrictions and constraints kept in mind and also the ultimate purpose of the building. Only with the appropriate considerations and keeping within the restrictions will be able to develop a good design. Apart from that, the creativity and innovation towards the ideas of the building were also essential, and the justification of ideas. Overall, the learning through Architectural design was quite fruitful, though, the Sketchup wasn't really helpful or beneficial in any way.

During the journey of the whole project, I met up with several difficulties that were needed to be solved. Firstly, with regards to the usage of the GoogleSketchUp, the interface of the software itself wasn't really user-friendly and it was hard to control. Next, for InDesign, the tools were way too complicated and there were a lot of little problems encountered. Also, when coming up with the design of the building itself, there were problems in the idea generation and selection of idea, as they were not really ideal and creative, and also innovative, which isn't the expected outcome. Last of all, is the problem of time-management. The time frame is a little too short, as students have to juggle their time with many academic subjects as well as full-fledged projects.

To solve the difficulties, more critical thinking, creativity, and time management skills need to be put in use. I believe, that these skills can be nurtured. Although there were many hiccups along the way, the learning journey was relevant and rather enjoyable, except on the part of learning of Photoshop, which wasn't really relevant.

What is Architectural Design?

Architecture design refers to the actual design and layout of spaces. Architecture encompasses many different elements including construction, design, and the manipulation of light as it relates to shadow. Throughout history, architects have found ways to create functional and practical spaces using any materials that were available.

Architectural Design program acquire the design skills they will need to create structurally sound building designs. An Architectural Designer is an architect who creates the design and plans for structures - including commercial buildings, residences and bridges. When creating a design, architectural designers must analyze the layout of the area and how the structure will fit into this design. Many architectural designers work in the design studios of architectural firms.
